On Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Knightdale Station Park will play host to a very special first time event to put a spotlight on the talents and creativity of the children in our community, while offering up a day full of fun for the whole family as the Knightdale Parks and Recreation Department presents the inaugural Knightdale Kids Festival (K-Fest) event.
The first ever Knightdale Kids Festival is a combined effort, as all of the area schools, as well as countless organizations with in the community have banded together to showcase the great work and efforts of the youth in the Knightdale area and those dedicated to strengthening their education and futures. As quoted on the official Town of Knightdale website, the mission of the inaugural Knightdale Kids Festival is “Understanding that education is the pathway to success, the mission of K-Fest is to connect youth with local non-profits, educational and cultural arts opportunities they may not otherwise be exposed to. This collaborative effort of community partners plays an important role in strengthening the educational component in Knightdale and Eastern Wake County.”
Throughout the day at Knightdale Kids Festival, children of all ages from area elementary, middle, and high schools will be performing in a variety of events, showcasing their vast skills in many areas. On top of all of those great activities, there will also be plenty of other entertainment, food and beverages, and all around family fun to enjoy at the Knightdale Kids Festival. In addition to all of these great things going on throughout the day at the first ever Knightdale Kids Festival there will also be live music and performers from some of the most popular local acts throughout the festivities. There will also be games and several inflatables for the children to play, and the Knightdale Farmers Market will be going on as regularly scheduled also.
With over 50 community organizations and businesses supporting the Knightdale Kids Festival as a partner or sponsor and 15 different schools or educational partners from the area lending a hand as well, this community based event is certain to become a Knightdale tradition to showcase our children. This Friday night, August 26, one of the most popular family events of the season returns to Knightdale Station Park, as Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night kicks off with a showing of the science fiction hit, “Avatar” playing on the big screen beginning at dusk.
With the Summer series proving once again to be a fun and entertaining night out for area families, the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night series has four scheduled showings to take place on Friday evenings through the first week in October. The Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night events are completely free to the public and all are encouraged to bring either a blanket or chairs to sit on as they enjoy the movie.

There will be vendors on hand serving up refreshments at Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night, and this fall there will be added incentive to grabbing a bite to eat or a drink at the events this fall, as groups from local schools will be running the concessions and all proceeds will go directly to the school on hand that evening. The Hodge Road Elementary PTA will be at the Friday, August 26 showing of Avatar, so having a snack or any type refreshment at the event will not only curb your hunger or thirst, but it will also help our area schools throughout the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night series.
Additionally, the Cub Scout Pack 365, which meets right in Knightdale every Tuesday night at the United Methodist Church will be on hand volunteering their time to help with each Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night. The “Psyched About Bikes” Knightdale Family Event will be host to a wide variety of bicycle activities that will not only stress bike safety, but also teach youngsters and adults alike the “rules of the road” while riding.
The festivities at this Saturday’s bike-themed Knightdale Family Event will kick off at 10:00 sharp with the “Bike Rodeo,” which is open to all ages. Keeping within the safety and regulations theme of the day, the “Rack and Ride Bus Demonstration” will once again be a part of the events at “Psyched About Bikes.” This hands on, learning experience at the Knightdale Family Event will see members of the local police and fire departments lending a hand.
Likewise, representatives from these same organizations, the Knightdale Fire Department, as well as the police departments from Knightdale, Zebulon, and Rolesville will be involved throughout the Knightdale family event , interacting with the children through a series of fun, yet informational activities promoting bike safety, stressing the usage of proper equipment and detailing the safest methods of riding for all children of all different age sets and kill levels.
“Psyched About Bikes” will be held in conjunction with another great Knightdale Family Event this Saturday, the Knightdale Farmers Market, which will also be going on at Knightdale Station Park. One sure sign that summer is right around the corner is the beginning of the family events through the town’s Parks and Recreation Department at Knightdale Station Park. Beginning this upcoming weekend one of the warm weather traditions that family’s with in the local community has grown to anticipate, as the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series starts on Friday, April 8 at dusk.
The Knightdale Outdoor Movie Series will open up with a showing of “How to Train Your Dragon,” on April 8, with the film beginning at dusk. Moving along throughout the late Spring and Summer months, three other showings are scheduled to date, with the next being “Rio” on Friday, May 13. Heading into June, the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series continues on Friday evenings, June 10 and June 24, with “Home” and “Independence Day” rounding out the scheduled events.
The Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series is free and open to the public and in addition to the feature films also offers a host of food and refreshments for those in attendance as well. Local PTA groups from schools in the area will be hosting the concessions at these events, so not only can you enjoy a great night out with the family, but all proceeds from the sale of these foods will go directly toward helping each of the school’s who will be running them. For the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series showings in April, Lockhart Elementary, while in May will run the concessions; Forestville Road Elementary will be serving up goodies. Hodge Road Elementary will handle the concessions for these events in the month of June.
Additionally, there will be another bit of Knightdale Station event “tradition” at each of these events as well, as the always popular food trucks will also have treats on hand for purchase throughout the Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series. Dust Donuts will be “at the Station” on May 13 and June 24, while C&J Funnel Cakes will be on hand on both April 8 and June 10. Jay’s Italian Ice will offer an avenue to “cool off” as they will serve up their icy treats on May 13, June 10, and June 24.
The free Knightdale Outdoor Movie Night Series takes place at the amphitheater at Knightdale Station Park and all attending are encouraged to bring their own chairs or a blanket to set out on the lawn to sit on. Continuing to build what is sure to become one of the most anticipated traditions in the town of Knightdale, live entertainment, great food and fun, and of course fireworks are all part of the schedule for the Second Annual July 4th Celebration at Knightdale Station.
Following last year’s rousing success at the then-newly opened Knightdale Station Park, the town of Knightdale has been hard at work to make this years’ July 4th celebration at Knightdale Station even bigger and better than the inaugural event. With activities beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending with the spectacular fireworks in the park at 9:15 on Saturday, July 4, there will be more food, more shuttles, more facilities, and more fireworks on tap to make the whole family experience that much better at the event’s second annual installment.
There will be food to satisfy any and all tastes at the July 4th celebration at Knightdale Station as there are a wide number of options in food vendors offering any type of food, desserts, and beverages. The food vendors will be located at various spots throughout Knightdale Station at the celebration. Local businesses and stores from throughout the community will also be partaking, as these type vendors will be located both at the Amphitheatre Shelter and at the Playground at Knightdale Station Park. There will be many activities provided by several of these vendors that the kids can enjoy as well as the adults.
The featured events of the evening will begin as local favorite, The Embers take the Knightdale Station stage to get the crowd up off their seats and dancing to some of their favorite familiar tunes at the July 4th celebration at Knightdale Station. Later in the evening, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the bigger and better fireworks show will cap off the festivities of the evening.
There will be more shuttles this year to make transportation to and from Knightdale Station Park more convenient this year, and they will run in a timely manner to and from the event, starting at both Knightdale Community Park (Knightdale High School) and East Pointe (formerly Square D). Beginning on the last weekend in May and running through the summer and into early fall, the 2015 Knightdale Local Market will be held every Saturday afternoon, bringing the freshest and best in local produce, baked goods, and even crafts to Knightdale Station Park.
Fifteen great local vendors are already signed on to be a part of the 2015 Knightdale Local Market, offering up the best local goods that can be found in a great community setting that the whole family can enjoy. Giving you a selection of the greatest locally grown fruits and vegetables each week will be Rob’s Fresh Produce, Red Umbrella Heirlooms, Right on Tyme, and Candor Peaches. If you are seeking the finest in baked goods and sweet treats, Bread and Wreaths by Rosetta, Iced Cupcakes, Martha’s Kitchen, A Beautiful Cupcake, and Brachi-Le Petit Roll will all be at the weekly events at Knightdale Station Park. Walk Ahead Farms will be selling fresh eggs and cuts of pasture raised meats including pork, turkey, chicken, goat, rabbit and duck. Barking Lot Treats and More will be at the market as well, with unique frozen and homemade treats for your canine friends and Tink and Twist, Sassy Bliss Boutique, Juanita Martin, and Annie P’s Soy Candles will each also be a part of the Knightdale Local Markett, each offering their own handmade jewelry, crafts, candles, and more.
The 2015 Knightdale Local Market will begin each Saturday at 2 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. With the new overhead shelters now built at the beautiful Knightdale Station Park, this years market will be even more convenient for community members to come out and support their local farmers and business owners. This years’ Knightdale Local Market will begin on Saturday, May 30 and run weekly until Saturday, October 10. The only two weekends not scheduled are due to the holidays surrounding both Saturday, July 4 and September 5.
